JAVAN RUSA DEER

New Caledonia has long been regarded as the Home of the World Record, Wild & Free Javan Rusa Deer, and Internationally recognised as one of the best deer hunts in the World today. The number of Wild & Free Deer is estimated at 120,000 + animals.

I have just spent 1-1/2 years living in New Caledonia, and have many local friends and Hunting contacts. With my local English speaking guide, who is an all round Bushman, Coralsea Safaris has secured some of the best properties for our hunting Safaris, with many potential GOLD MEDAL JAVAN RUSA STAGS.

Hunting with Coralsea Safaris in New Caledonia is a very pleasant experience, within a tropical environment. A Coral reef surrounds the island forming a lagoon with a central mountain range rising to 1630 m, running north-south along its length. The West Coast is the Domain of cattle ranches and our hunting ground for Javan Rusa Deer. The average temperature varies between 65 and 85 degrees F. As this is a tropical island, lightweight clothing is required, but the nights can get a little cool, so a sweater or two for comfort is required. There are no snakes, crocodiles or poisonous spiders in New Caledonia.

Tontouta Airport, where you will be picked up and a pleasant scenic drive of approx 45 minutes, staying in Bungalow style accommodation, with a great relaxing swimming available. The Hotel/Motel offers a wide variety of seafood dishes in their restaurant, and their quality is known throughout the island

HUNTING

Coralsea Safaris conducts hunting Safaris on a 7day basis, including arrival and departure days, which will give you a full 5 days plus of hunting.
Due to local weekend activities, it is much preferred to arrive on a Sunday and depart on a Saturday, to maximise your hunting days. Hunts can be on a 1 x 1 or 2 x 1 basis and Non Hunters are most welcome.
The Best times for hunting Javan Rusa Deer is in July through to September, as this is their rut season.

METHOD OF HUNTING
Early morning starts are required to ambush the Deer as they return to the forest after feeding on the open flats at night. As the day warms up we take position on large hilltops to glass areas, which may locate a rutting Stag. After having lunch, we reposition ourselves and wait for the Deer to return to the open flats prior to dark. It is quite normal to hear many Stags roaring from an advantage position, and quite possible to see hundred's of Deer at one time.
